Topics You Should Teach Your Kids
Parenting is not an easy job – perhaps the only job where no payment is involved. Taking care of the children can be a handful, but they also bring a wholesome feeling to your heart. Of course, when they reach an appropriate age to go to school, parents often think that the teachers would teach their kids everything and anything that is useful.
However, that is far from the truth. Sure, the maths, science and language learning are useful, but there are also matters that the school will not teach, and it is the parent’s responsibilities to teach their kids. The matters are either taboo or too complicated for the school to teach the children. Hence, parents should at least explain parts of it as to not leave the children oblivious of the importance the matters possess.
How to deal with puberty
Some school does teach your kids the reproduction system and the menstruation cycle that the girls experience when their puberty hits. However, there are other factors to be taught like the hygienic factor or the pain of menstruation. Puberty for the male kids are rarely even mentioned in school. Boys should at least be told about the increasing in hair growth or even what happens during the mornings, and how to handle it.
Maintaining Cars and Houses
How to maintain my car or house is the one thing that I wish my parents would teach me. This is because there are so many things to keep track of other than having to pay for the road tax or insurance. How to deal with a flat tyre, or overheating, these are the problems that children will face when they are old enough to get their driving licence. Besides that, maintaining house or fixing the things around the house should be taught too.
For example how to fix a light or which fittings to use to fix the leak – you never know when you need copper fittings or GI pipe fittings, and where to get it in Malaysia. Plus, the important things to look out for when renovating a house, on the different types of utilities and cements to use. These matters might seem like too complicated for the kids to know, but a simple visual explanation would be helpful too.
Paying for taxes and debts
When you’re reaching adulthood, paying for taxes and accumulating debt is a normal thing. Especially when the debt is actually from the children’s tertiary education. That is why it is important to teach your kids how to spend, save, and manage their money. Just because they receive financial help from the government, does not mean that they can spend however they like.
They need to be reminded that the money is just temporary and need to be paid at the end of their education. Moreover, when they finish their schooling, there are also matters that they should pay – the different taxes, from cars to houses, and even life insurance.
It is never easy to be a parent, but being a good parent is always worthwhile. Seeing your children grow up to become an ideal and useful citizen of society, is something every parent should experience.
