Choosing the Best Car Seat: Child Safety Tips
Are you thinking of getting a car seat and jogging stroller in Malaysia for your child? That is an amazing idea, but make sure to use it properly. According to a study conducted by the NHTSA, seat belt and car seat misuse records vary a lot from around 70% to 90%. Below are some tips to use it well.
- Harness tight
If your child is secured well, you must not be able to pinch strap fabric at the kid’s shoulders.
- Right seat
Research on the best car seats available in the market. To choose the most appropriate one for your child, look into the car seat’s limits when it comes to weight and height. Moreover, age is a crucial factor, since it is a reflection of your kid’s skeletal development.
- Seat tight
After the car seat installation, it must not move over an inch from front to back, or even side to side. This test is tricky, so check it thoroughly.
- Harness height
When it comes to rear-facing car seat installation, straps are below or at your kid’s shoulders. For the installation forward facing car seats, the harness straps must be above or at your child’s shoulders. Also, the chest clips must be on the same level as the armpits.
- Final check
Tether tight, and recline right. Make sure to assess the reclining angle when it comes to rear-facing car seats. Don’t worry, most of them have indicators. By checking it, you can ensure that the kid’s head wouldn’t fall forward. This can negatively impact breathing.
For those forward-facing car seats installed using seat or latch belt, always tighten and attach the topmost tether in order to prevent forward movements. These forward movements can cause head injuries.
